ARE THE RATES FOR ALL PROPERTIES THE SAME

Rates depend on the services provided. The Municipal Council imposes rates on services such as General usage, road maintenance, garbage collection and street lights.

 

LOSS OR NON-RECEIPT OF BILLS

SPlease contact or personally approach the Valuation and Taxation Department, Municipal Council for get a copy of the bill.

Application to be exempted from late penalty payment for non-receipt reasons will not be entertained.

 

WHAT IS YOUR DUTY AS A TAX PAYER

  • Be responsible to pay the assessment tax every year.
  • Notify the Municipal Council if your property has been sold, changed of title or descended by filling up Form F and Form G respectively.
  • Notify the Municipal Council of any change of postal address.
  • Notify the Municipal Council if your property has been completely constructed, vacated, demolished or burnt.
  • Ensure that the property to be purchased is free of tax arrears.

 

VACANT OR NON-OCCUPIED BUILDINGS

Owners may apply for a rebate by sending a written notice within 14 days from the date the premise is vacated.

 

IF ONE CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY IN TOTAL, CAN PAYMENT BE MADE IN INSTALLMENTS

Tax payers must send a written application or personally approach the office to deal with the matter. The Council will take the installment payment application into consideration.

 

FAILURE TO PAY ASSESSMENT TAX WITHIN STIPULATED PERIOD

  • A 1% penalty per month or part of it will be imposed after the last date of payment.
  • Registration of caveat on properties.
  • Implementation of movable asset warrant of attachment.
  • Auction of confiscated movable asset.
  • Court action.
